Outreach Initiatives

Next Generation School's outreach initiatives are an integral component of our commitment to creating connections and giving back to our community.

Outreach initiatives give students an opportunity to collaborate with peers and mentors; they discover how what they learn in school relates to real life and to the larger world. We believe that outreach and service projects instill compassion, integrity and an understanding of the responsibilities of good citizenship.

Outreach initiatives are school-wide. Faculty organize several service projects during the school year, among them our annual drive for the Eastern Illinois Food bank. Our Physical Education teachers also lead a project to benefit the American Heart Association.

Outreach plays a special role in our Fine and Performing Arts curriculum because the arts lend themselves to collaboration and creating connections within our community.

As a means of teaching students the value of art and music making outside of the classroom, the Fine and Performing Arts Departments collaborate with campus and community arts organizations. Such collaboration might take the form of a Primary School performance in the lobby of the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, or creating artwork for critically ill patients in local hospitals. Our students have the opportunity to experience art and music as a means of communicating with the world around them.
